In 1997, Rheingold Asia Development Corporation was registered with the SEC to handle the prawn based farming.
The familys existing fishpond operation is located in Barangay Sta. Isabel, in Kawit, Cavite owned by the Yumol family since the 1940s. Management of the business is now being handled by the third generation. This property has an area of around 16 hectares and was formerly devoted mainly to salt production but in 1998 it has since been converted to fishponds of which there are 12.5 hectares dedicated to shrimp (3 ponds of rough a little more than 4 hectares each).
The company raises Penaeus Monodon or giant tiger prawn, also known as sugpo. It employs the brackishwater pond culture system based on the extensive method. This depends completely on the natural food propagated in the pond with or without fertilization and on tidal water replacement. It has average of two croppings per year. The company sells the bulk of its product to wholesalers and retailers.
