Abstract/Summary
Intrapreneurship or the practice of entrepreneurship within an existing organization has been a flourishing business strategy that large organizations such as banks utilize to gain competitive advantage and industry leadership. A main enabler of this strategy is the individual characteristics that employees of an organization possess. This study explored the roles that Individual Entrepreneurial Orientation (IEO) plays in the Intrapreneurial Intensity Index (III) of selected top private-owned universal banks in the Philippines. Employing a case study methodology, it was determined that a high degree of IEO can lead to a high degree of III in a bank. Conversely, a low degree of IEO can lead to a low degree of III in a bank. All three banks studied confirmed the existence of a high degree of IEO and III within their organization, however, improvements must be done in some intrapreneurship indices in order to be categorized as having both a high and intrapreneurial degree of intrapreneurial intensity. Future research is proposed to validate other roles that IEO may play in the intrapreneurial intensity of a firm.
