Abstract/Summary
This study has described the extent of parental acceptance and the factors contributing to parental acceptance of HPV adolescent vaccination in the City of Dasmarinas, Cavite. These factors included mothers knowledge on and attitudes towards HPV vaccination, and their perception of the role of health care providers. Using survey as a method of inquiry, an interview schedule was employed to 105 mothers with at least one adolescent child and is presently residing in the study site. The findings revealed that respondents have moderate level of knowledge about HPV, HPV vaccination and the benefits and risks of it. They also expressed favorable attitude on the four domains included such as on the safety concerns on the vaccine, perceived need, perception on risky sexual behavior and childs age and sex. Lastly, the findings revealed that there was a homogenous strong positive perception on the role of health care providers among all the mothers. Parental acceptance or the intent of the respondents for allowing their adolescent child to have HPV vaccination showed that more mothers accepted it. In terms of parental reasons, results showed that those expressing acceptance tended to give more reasons that are related to vaccine such as that it would protect the child and it is for the childs safety. Conversely, those who did not accept tended to provide nonvaccine- related reasons such as the adolescent child is not sexually active.
