Abstract/Summary

The three boys, Rogelio, Federico and Rodulfo attended their classes under the influence of liquor. The teacher reported to the principal her observation of the three boys. Then, the principal called the attention of the culprits but Rogelio and Federico fearing the principal, managed to escape but Rodulfo was brave enough to meet the principal. Without further investigation, the principal locked Rodulfo in his office and assumed his class. After an hour, he returned to his office and sent Rodulfo home telling him to take a rest or sleep. Saying nothing, Rodulfo proceeded speedily to their house and immediately came back with a bolo and tried to stab anybody on his way. The classes of the whole institution were disturbed, and most of the students from other rooms went out and ran home. But with the technical ability of the commandant, he was able to drop Rodulfos bolo by his cane. Rodulfo surrendered and he was confined by the policemen at the municipal jail. The principal then called for the faculty meeting to decide on Rodulfos case. Majority of the teachers voted to follow strictly the school rules and regulations, so Rodulfo, Rogelio and Federico will be dismissed from school. But the many parents within the community sympathized with them and the P.T.A. president even sent a reconsideration letter to the principal. The principal could not give his decision due to the fact that if he would give special consideration to the graduating students, he would lose the confidence and the respect of his teachers. If he would side with his faculty, he would lose the support of many of the parents in the community. He was in a great dilemma. On the latter part of the paper, alternative course of actions were recommended by the writer in solution to the problem posed on this case.
