Abstract/Summary
In this study the researcher developed a system that will recognize named entities in Filipino texts. A handcrafted rule based on the Filipino pattern was constructed and was used for recognizing the entities. A gazetteer list also was used to help recognizing the named entities in the text. The recognizer was tested in different types of text, formal and informal. The system was evaluated through Precision, Recall and F-measure. An Error Rate was considered as well in analyzing the performance of the recognizer. The result of the systems evaluation was considered acceptable.
