Abstract/Summary
Due to the low availment of the Health Services Departments Annual Physical Examination and the Dental Consultation and Treatment by the college students of Colegio de San Juan-Manila, the idea to pursue this study came into being. The Health Services Surveys results show that the respondents were aware of almost all of the health services of Letran-Manila. However, majority of the respondents who were aware, have not availed most of the services, except for Medical Consultation, Annual Physical Examination, and Use of Facilities or Equipment. The results of the survey also show two of the four prominent reasons of the respondents behind their non-availment of the services, which are: there is No Need or No Reason to visit the clinic and that they have No Time to avail of the services because they are busy. With respect to focus group discussions, low level of awareness was established and undesirable health attitudes of the participants surfaced during the discussions. Based from cited results, the need to develop positive attitudes towards health care, the need to know how to keep oneself physically healthy, and the need to know how and when to seek medical or dental services were established as students health related needs. v The Educational Management Survey reports showed Above Average ratings were given by the students in three successive academic years for the services offered by the Health Services Department. It was apparent from the results that there was quality delivery of the health services in the past. Having such ratings, there was no apparent need that could be derived from the EMS results. However, due to the lowest mean rating received by health services area (one of the items in the evaluation), though it received Above Average mark also, for three consecutive years, an assessment of its implementation must be done to determine the reasons behind the consistent lowest rating given by the college students. The Health Promotion Program received an over-all rating of Excellent. Twenty-one (21) out of the twenty-two (22) participants wanted the program to continue. Details of the results are discussed in the succeeding parts of this chapter.
