Abstract/Summary
In the changing mathematical world, a mathematics teacher must always keep abreast of the modern techniques and recent developments in his field. One such modern technique is the analytic approach to vector analysis. This modern method lends itself to both geometrical and mathematical representations, and as such, has a wide range of applicability.
This paper has been written in an attempt : 1) to make available to high school students and college freshmen and for high school teachers training program an introductory treatment of vectors requiring only a limited mathematical background 2) to show the use of the analytic method of vector analysis as a mathematical tool in solving selected problems in physics and 3) to illustrate the applicability of vectors in the field of economics.
In this particular study, included in the proposed lesson plan were: the basic definitions of a vector, it's geometric representation, multiplication of a vector by a scalar, vector's fundamental operations (addition, subtraction and multiplication), vectors in the form of matrices and it's application in physics and economics.
