Abstract/Summary
This study proposes a student personnel services program for Notre Dame for Marbel for Girls, Koronadal, South Cotabato based on assessed needs. The study employed the descriptive developmental method of research. It involved the description, recording, analysis, and interpretation of the assessed needs of students and the extent and adequacy of the existing student services offered by the respondent school. Based on the assessed needs, a coordinated student personnel services program (SPS) was developed for the respondent school. The four instruments used in the study were: 1. the students' needs assessment survey questionnaire (Trinidad, 1986) 2. the PAASCU student services survey questionnaire 3. the questionnaire on extent of attainment of student services objectives and, 4. the interview guide for Notre Dame for Marbel for Girls administrators and student personnel staff. A total of 323 respondents were included in the study, consisting of a random sample of 280 high school students and the whole population of 43 school personnel. The findings of the study indicated that the high school students' assessment of the actual attainment of the objectives of the student services tended to decrease as they stayed longer in school. The first year students were most satisfied with the school's student services while the third year students were the least satisfied. The assessment of the personnel/teaching, non-teaching and SPS staff and the Directress/Principals of the adequacy of the student services of the school were very much lower than that of the students.
In general, the objectives of the school student services were attained to a great extent. Of the five areas of concern, the best attained objectives were those for the guidance services while the least attained were those for the food services. The objectives of the guidance services, religious services, health services, and food services should be attained to a very great extent. The student activity services could be attained to a lesser degree. The school was weak in terms of follow-up services, services to administrators, teachers and parents, vocation and career guidance, and remedial and enrichment services. The three-year development plan, which was based on the identified needs of the students, presented in detail the specific improvement targets for each of the five areas of concern.
