Abstract/Summary
Providers of higher education today are faced with the challenge of building a system of higher education, which will be equipped to meet the needs of society in the next century. Already the profile of the student population has been transformed. The channels of access to higher education have been broadened and multiplied.
Education is clearly under great pressure to respond to changing global economic and social conditions. The province of Cavite is transforming into a newly industrialized and economic zone and demands quality graduates fit to enter a global work environment. San Sebastian College-Recoletos (SSC-R) de Cavite has to establish competitive strategies, take advantage of information technology, and even to reengineer - in the same manner that corporations do. This is to achieve Quality and Excellence, Relevance and Responsiveness, Access and Equity, Efficiency and Effectiveness, which are ideal characteristic's of any educational institution.
Furthermore, education is increasingly being viewed as a commodity to be shaped according to consumer demand. With the onset of information technology, this perception of education as a market product or service provider creates a new focus on the changing requirements of the students and the job market, thus enabling students' preferences to be embedded into the learning environment and given top priority. Under this scenario, San Sebastian College-Recoletos de Cavite will have to be more flexible and overcome the structural rigidities of traditional institutions. It is in this light that SSC-R, aside from its present objectives, wants to computerize its systems, diversify into specialized courses by offering customized Continuing Education programs and Education on the Internet, and strengthen its workforce.
Critical success factors such as operational support (i.e. curriculum, library, laboratory, and faculty), information systems support, faculty credentials, quality of incoming students, and documentation are necessary in order to achieve competitive strategies that will make San Sebastian College-Recoletos de Cavite at par with any global Higher Education Institution (HEI).
