Abstract/Summary
Growing up in a hearing aid business has its perks. My mother, who is an Audiologist, put up such a company 23 years ago. Without realizing it, this development has changed our lives for better or worse. Having your own business may be advantage.
I believe that I can capitalize from this advantage by using this paper for that purpose. The analyses that have been brought out of this paper may help improve and develop in the formulation of our company's strategies. It is my personal objective to propose and implement some, if not all, of the strategies herein.
The paper is composed of several parts. The first part is about the Hearing Aid industry. An overview is briefly presented along with some of the major players internationally. The second part is the industry analysis. Michael Porter's 5 Forces Model is employed as the main tool for analysis. The third part is about the company, the LEDESMA AUDIOLOGICAL CENTER INC. The fourth part is the company analysis using the value chain. The fifth part is the strategies, both present and proposed for the improvement of the company's performance. The sixth part is the financial projections and the last is the appendix section.
Some information herein is kept confidential as requested by our suppliers, Siemens International. Through their offices in Singapore, certain data have been furnished for me to include in this paper. They clearly stipulated that the information they have given should not be included even as part of any reference or appendix. It is my responsibility to them that I honor my word to them.
This exercise has been an eye opener and is prompting me to investigate further how strategic management can help in our family organization. A lot of time and effort has to be invested to get the desired results. In the age of fast technological advancements, Corporate leadership is essential through effective management. The emphasis on analysis has become interesting for me. Competitive advantage is a necessity and the means to be in the lead is challenging.
I would like to thank my parents for the risk they took to set up this business. The resources and information obtained for this paper have been valuable. Many thanks also to Edwin Marcelo who helped in the graphics design. To my wife Rona, who helped edit this report. To my brother Edwin, my sister Sheryl and my son Mickie who have gone on from this world. My grief of their loss has been transformed to inspiration in finishing this paper.
