Abstract/Summary
The dichloromethane extracts of the leaves of Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br. afforded five triterpenes: lupeol (AS 3), lupeol [AS 1 (1)], cycloeucalenol [AS 1 (2)], cycloartanol [AS 1 (3)], lupeol acetate (AS 2) and betulin (AS 7). Their structures were elucidated extensively by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy. This is the first report on the isolation of cycloeucalenol and cycloartanol from the leaves of A. scholaris. The mixture of AS 1 exhibits a potential hypoglycemic property at a dose of 25 mg/kg BW.
