Abstract/Summary

This paper attempted to present a model of an organized guidance and counseling program for the seminaries in Sampran, Thailand, i.e. for Lux Mundi major seminary, St. Joseph Upatham minor seminary of the diocese of Bangkok, and St. Camillus Juniorate of the Camillian Fathers. This model was prepared for the Thai setting, therefore, the researcher had to tailor it to Thai culture, traditions, structures, and set-up which are very much different, and probably unique, from those of the Philippines. As a model, it is not intended to really fit the diocesan nor the religious seminaries in Sampran. Rather, it should serve as a guideline for the faculty of each seminary when they will plan and implement such programs for their students. In the proposed organization set-up, the philosophy and objectives of the training are presented after the description of the role of guidance personnel and of the physical setting and budget. To meet the needs of the seminarians, the following services were suggested : Recruitment procedures, admission procedures, counseling and enrichment services, counseling approach, counseling encounter, the guidance folder, consultation with parents, formation program, follow-up and evaluation of the program. Being only a model, the implementation of this program depends on the faculty and guidance personnel of each seminary. They have to determine the right time to start, the modifications needed, the funds and time available, and the urgency of the program. Hopefully, the program, with some modifications and changes, will be able to meet and satisfy the needs of the seminarians in their respective seminaries.
