Abstract/Summary

This study aims to propose an organized guidance program and an in-service training education for St. Maria Teacher Training School in Jakarta, Indonesia. A survey was conducted at the end of the school year 1973-74 on 222 students and 18 teachers. Four survey questionnaires were given to the respondents composed of questionnaires on the inventory of guidance awareness for both the teachers and the students, a survey on the existing conditions according to teachers' knowledge about the students, and a survey on the guidance needs of the students. The proposed guidance services needed for the organized guidance program were individual inventory, information, counseling, and follow-up service. The proposed guidance personnel, its roles and functions in the guidance program, and an evaluation procedure were also presented. The proposed in-service training education that would best prepare teachers in their involvement in the guidance program was also given. The proposed program would be carried out throughout the year in four phases. Phase one included an orientation on improving self-knowledge and interpersonal relationships, and a general orientation on the proposed guidance program. The second phase would be the monthly staff meetings, the third phase would be the workshop or seminar to be held after the first semester to help the teachers acquire more knowledge on guidance services, and the fourth phase would be another workshop or seminar to be conducted after the second semester in August to help the teachers acquire skills and competencies in guidance services.
