Abstract/Summary
The study was conducted to determine if family happiness, social support, interpersonal relationship, job satisfaction and monthly income are significant predictors of happiness of professional Vietnamese working women. The mixed method of concurrent triangulation research design (QUAN + QUAL) was employed. The purposive sampling method was used in the selection of 100 respondents with varying professional jobs in hospitals, schools, and institutions in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. They were asked to answer the questions in the instruments consisting of the Personal Information Sheet, Family Happiness Inventory (FHI), Social Support Scale (SSS), Interpersonal Relationship Inventory (IRI), Mohrman Cooke Mohrman Job Satisfaction Scale (MCMJSS), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) and Positive Affect and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) Ten respondents were interviewed for the qualitative component. Descriptive, as well as inferential statistics (e.g. Pearson r and hierarchical regression), were used for data analysis. The quantitative data revealed that family happiness, social support, job satisfaction and income are significant predictors of SWB. In particular, family happiness and monthly income emerged as the best predictors of SWB. Reconciling the quantitative with the qualitative findings of this study, it was found out that the latter support the quantitative information gathered. What surfaced was the reality that Vietnamese working women's role of promoting harmony and love in the family dominate their whole being.
