Abstract/Summary

The proposed guidance program for Marcopper High School is based on the assessed needs and problems of the school with special emphasis on the difficulties that confront the administrators, teachers, students and the parents. Information gathered from these resources will highly determine the functions and services that the guidance program will eventually emphasize. This study hopes to provide answers to the following questions : 1) What needs justify the creation of the organized guidance program in Marcopper High Scholl? and 2) What are the guidance services that would best answer these needs? In order to arrive at the necessary answers to the problems, environmental data were obtained and a survey was undertaken. The survey made use of a separate set of questionnaires, which had to be filled out by the parents, students and teachers, and interview sessions with the school director and the Chairman of the Board of Regents. The writer also made use of her personal observations in addition to the scheme of arriving at the needed information. The survey findings, which served as bases for the proposed guidance programs, revealed substantial information on the guidance needs from the viewpoint of each survey respondent. These had likewise determined the proposal of the following guidance services : counseling, information service, individual inventory service, vocational guidance, and follow-up service for students in-service training and consultation service for teachers and, information and consultation services for parents. These services were strongly recommended to serve as answers to the assessed guidance needs. The proposed guidance program, aside from the services, also includes recommendations for guidance facilities and considered items with which to base the initial guidance budget. The maximum extent of its utility is what determines the extent of the accomplishment of the proposed program's objectives.
