Abstract/Summary

This study evaluates the 2002 Annual Work Conference of Guidance Personnel and Special Education Teachers in the Division of City Schools, Manila. The study involved 122 randomly selected special education teachers teaching in public schools in Manila. They evaluated the 2002 Annual Work Conference of Guidance Personnel and Special Education Teachers using questionnaires. The four levels of professional development evaluation by Gusky (2000) were used to evaluate the conference. The four levels include participants' reaction, participants' learning, organization support, and participants' use of new knowledge and skills. Seven aspects of the conference were evaluated at Level 1, which were the participants' reactions, namely: topics, activities, participants, resource persons, scheduling, audiovisual aids and venue/accommodations. On account of the findings, the following conclusions were drawn: 1) The special education teachers expressed positive reactions to the various aspects of the 2002 Annual Work Conference of Guidance Personnel and Special Education Teachers. 2) The special education teachers learned the various topics taken up during the Conference to a great extent. 3) The special education teachers agreed that the support for implementing the knowledge they gained was given by their schools after attending the Conference. 4) The knowledge and skills gained from the various topics discussed in the Conference were often used by special education teachers. 5) The suggestions given by the participants are useful in improving the content, format and requirements of future annual work conferences.
