Abstract/Summary

This study deals with the development of an undergraduate program in special education based on the perspectives of De La Salle University undergraduate students. The present investigation employed the descriptive research method by utilizing a researcher-modified questionnaire. The information obtained from the data gathering procedure was analyzed relative to the profile of the undergraduates, their attitude towards students with disabilities, attitude towards educating children with disabilities and their perception of pre-service education. The findings served as the basis for the development of an undergraduate program in special education. The information obtained from the investigation revealed that the respondents have an undecided attitude towards students with disabilities. However they have an optimistic outlook of pre-service education. They also demonstrated a positive response towards the content of a pre-service education program. This indicates that the graduates are in agreement to the development of an undergraduate program in special education as indicated by their responses on the benefits of taking up a course or courses in special education. Hence, the researcher proposed an undergraduate special education program.
