Abstract/Summary
The study identifies lay administrator's training needs and priorities as perceived by the school directors, directresses, administrators, and teachers, to determine whether there is a significant difference in the perception of respondents, as to the extent of the need for training by lay administrators and to develop a proposed development program for the administrators of the Diocesan Schools in Kabankalan, Negros Occidental. A descriptive survey was conducted to identify training and development needs and unstructured interviews were held to substantiate the data gathered in the questionnaire. The respondents included 16 directors/directresses, 20 principals, 4 college deans, and 231 teachers representing the 17 diocesan schools under study. The findings indicated significant differences in the perception of respondents. Meetings were called to resolve these differences and to prioritize administrators' training needs.
The following were the first priority need items under each sub-area of the administrative and supervisory management need: preparing a long-range development plan in coordination with other administrators and teachers establishing policies on budget developing skills in counseling and guidance of the teachers and staff acquiring new knowledge and skills in different supervisory techniques developing an adequate reading program formulating criteria for recognizing and rewarding faculty and staff and developing procedures in assessing faculty and staff performance. The researcher formulated a development plan with the aim of providing an ongoing formation and training for the lay administrators.
