Abstract/Summary
This study investigates the level of religious motivation and the nature of parental attachment and security among adolescent seminarians in Indonesia. Furthermore, this study inquires into the relationship between religious motivation and parental attachment, religious motivation and security, and parental attachment and security among seminarians.The subjects of this study were 300 seminarians from three seminaries: St. Domingo Seminary at the eastern part of Indonesia St. Francis Xavier Seminary at the middle part of Indonesia and St. Peter Canisius Seminary at the western part of Indonesia. Non-seminarians consisting of 300 male students, from three Catholic schools located on the western and middle part of Indonesia, were included in order to establish norms of the Parental Attachment and Security for Indonesian subjects. The descriptive correlational research design was used. The data gathering was conducted with the use of three instruments: (a) Parental Attachment Questionnaire,(b) Filipino Self-Appraisal Inventory, and (c) Religious Motivation Review. The findings revealed that there was a positive and significant relationship between religious motivation and parental attachment (r = .189, p.01), between religious motivation and security (r Recommendations for research in this area are focused on establishing norm for Religious Motivation Review and the differences between adolescent seminarians and non-seminarian adolescent in parental attachment and security.
