Abstract/Summary

The objectives of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is to maintain price stability and to promote and maintain the stability and convertibility of the peso. It supervises the operations of banks and financial companies and provides policy directions in the areas of money, banking and credit.

The Department of Economic Research (DER) of the BSP conducts research and studies for the guidance of the Governor and the Monetary Board in the formulation and implementation of its policies. It also prepares and maintains various economic and financial indicators from both internal and external sources for the dissemination to the public. These indicators are also used in the design, development and estimation of macroeconomic models for further use in monetary and economic policy formulation.

A Monetary Survey Executive Information System or MSEIS is designed to provide top executives from DER access to various financial and economic indicators focusing on the movements of monetary aggregates based on the Monetary Survey. This study also includes the design of a system to produce the Monetary Survey.Based on the interviews of top officials, critical success factors were used to determine information requirements for the MSEIS. In addition to information requirements, improvements on the present system and on the information executives receive were also considered. The MSEIS was designed using paper-phototyping. Screen designs were shown to users and were enhanced until it was accepted. Finally, sources of information used in the MSEIS were identified.
