Abstract/Summary

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas is the governing body of all the financial institutions in the country. These include banks and non-bank financial intermediaries. They all belong to the financial services industry. The industry is characterized by large capitalization, technology-based products and services, and keen competition brought by the liberalization law and the growing sophistication of customers.

PCIBank is a diversified universal bank. Its operations showcase its wide array of products and services and alternative funding options. Its distribution system is one of the largest in the country, and is enhanced by state-of-the-art technology. The professionalism, competence and dedication of its personnel are the envy of the competitors. A big capital base and a sound financial position enable it to reach more market and hold its position in the financial services industry.

Despite its strengths, PCIBank is feeling the heat of the competition, as evidenced by its low volume of demand deposits, falling interest rates spread, and decreasing liquidity.
