Abstract/Summary
This thesis identifies and describes the existing communication network used by Bayan Telecommunications Holdings Corporation (BayanTel) Region 5A South Luzon Transmission Field Operations and to provide possible recommendations for the improvement of the system. This study on the BayanTel 5A South Luzon Transmission Field Operations Group particularly Albay and Sorsogon provinces was conducted by the author in the course of actual participation in the activities of the group. The basic elements of Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH), the SDH frame format, and the applications of TN-1X in fiber optics, primary tools suited for fiber applications in installation and maintenance, testing and splicing of fiber optic cables, and the general optical safety procedures required to be followed when working on the equipment are expounded in the study. BayanTel uses three (3) communication networks: Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) fiber optic networks, Satellite Networks, and the Municipal Telephone Public Offices (MTPO) / Integrated Rural Telephony (IRT) 2000 Network. The study is beneficial to the author for it enhances his capabilities. It gives him the chance to understand the transmission system used by BayanTel in its communication network as well as know the functions of some transmission equipment, thereby giving a clearer view of what fiber optic transmission, satellite transmission and rural telephony.
As a general rule, the implementation of Preventive Maintenance (PM) Program to any industry helps prevent the occurrence of failures before they develop to breakdown or other problems in operation. This will aid in achieving optimum levels of availability and overall performance of equipment in order to meet business demands.
