Abstract/Summary

From a fully government owned to a newly privatized firm, and with the recent deregulation of the downstream oil industry, Petron now faces great challenges. In order to maintain its leadership, it will have to contend with the rapid shifts in the political, social, and technological fields. In an era of fast paced and unprecedented changes, nurturing growth requires new thinking, new philosophers, utmost flexibilities and entirely new ways of doing things.

As it courses in fulfilling its vision to be the most admired company in the Philippines by the year 2006, it will be very aggressive in implementing strategies in the fields of Marketing, Production/Operations, Finance and Human Relations/ Resources. It will continue to reexamine its policies and adjust its directions depending on the environment. All its efforts will be geared toward the stated vision.

Its values will be guided by the identified seven core competencies such as Adaptability, Empowerment, Team Orientation, Customer Intimacy, Entrepreneurial Spirit, Critical Thinking, and Commitment to Excellence. These are the core competencies that will characterize the superior, high performing Petron. Through these, the organization aims to maintain its leadership and always surpass its competitors.

It will use the values chain as a tool in establishing competitive advantage by constantly interrelating all its departments as well as buyers and customers.
