Abstract/Summary
UBP Capital Corporation, an investment bank which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Union Bank of the Philippines, belongs to the big umbrella of the financial service industry. Financial services industry is defined as those entities that satisfy the needs or want for full range financial services that includes commercial and personal savings. Loan and mortgage, financing, stock brokering, and specialized banking services. Investments House/Banks are those who are engage primarily in securities underwriting of other corporations including the government and its agencies.
Using the Five Model by Michael Porter in the analysis of the industry, it was found out that the threat of entry in the industry is low, that is, there exist a high entry barrier for potential entrants. The industry is also characterized by the intense rivalry of the existing players which is a result of having numerous competing firms which has more less equal asset size.
