Abstract/Summary

This paper was prepared for the purpose of developing strategies to improve the competitive advantage of Professional Computer Systems, Inc. (PCSI) in the software industry.

The Professional Computer Systems, Inc. represents the local computer industrys small and yet competent firms that are willing to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the industry. The firm has substantial experience and expertise in application software development. However, due to a lack of an effective strategy the firm has posted negative earnings over the years.

After a thorough analysis of the firm and the industry, several alternatives were considered and evaluated. On the basis of evaluation, it is recommended that the following major strategies be undertaken: 1. focus on application software development 2. establish partnerships with large local or foreign software firms and 3. enter the international software market.

By adopting the above recommendations, PCSI would enable itself to remedy its problem of negative earnings. In addition, this would allow PCSI to improve its financial and technical capability, and increase its market.
