Abstract/Summary
This thesis describes the application of computer vision principles to the scanning of bar codes. The scanner can automatically decode and differentiate between the EAN-13 and ITF-14 bar code symbologies. A simple CCD video camera is used as the input sensor connected to a frame grabber inside a desktop PC. The scanning software runs in the PC and is the subject of this study. It is envisioned that this system can be further enhanced and applied in robotic vision systems for classification and sorting purposes.
