Abstract/Summary

v. 1. This study aims to propose a vocational guidance program for Silliman University in Dumaguete City. The descriptive method of research was used in this study. The proposed program was based, to a large extent, on the writer's research and experience. However, a survey was conducted using the University Student Directories of the schoolyears 1970-71 and 1971-72 as to how many college students enrolled during the schoolyear 1970-71 shifted courses in the schoolyear 1971-72. The proposed program offered the following services : Information, Counseling, Educational Programs, Testing, and Follow-up and Evaluation. It was recommended that the feasibility of implementing the program be looked into as soon as possible. A professionally trained Vocational Guidance Counselor should be appointed to implement the program. It was also recommended that the Vocational Guidance Counselor be provided with the necessary tools and facilities needed in the implementation of the program.

v. 2. This study aims to gather statistical data from the dormitory residents regarding the Basic Rules and Regulations of the Women's Dormitories of Silliman University. A questionnaire was prepared requesting the respondents to give their opinions on each rule/regulation. The opinions were tallied according to the responses, which were categorized into two : acceptable and not acceptable. Stratified random sampling method was employed. There were a total of 158 respondents. Results of this study showed that the dormitory residents tended to accept rules and regulations which ensured their safety, protection, and general welfare. Rules which were in conformity with good grooming, personal hygiene, and orderliness were likewise acceptable to the residents. Dormitory residents, however, responded negatively towards rules which were based on tradition and those which stand in the way of better academic performance. The residents tended to be divided in their opinions on rules affected by poor coordination between the dormitory program and the academic and student activities program, poor semantics, and the background of the dormitory residents. It was recommended that a similar study be conducted with the dormitory management council as respondents to find out if there exist significant differences between their opinions and that of the dormitory residents. It was also suggested that the University administration create an ad hoc committee composed of representatives from the dormitory residents, dormitory management, and the Office of the Student Personnel Services to work on the following : a) possibility of retaining the rules and regulations as expressed by the dormitory residents b) possibility of modifying and dropping the rules and regulations as expressed by the dormitory residents c) improve the semantics of the Basic Rules and Regulations and d) work out plans for proper coordination of the dormitory program with that of the academic and the student activities program of the university. v. 3. This study aims to present the researcher's counseling theory in an attempt to fulfill one of the major behavioral objectives of the course in counseling. The descriptive method of research was used in this study. The formulation of the theory was based on the research and counseling experiences of the researcher. The concept and ideas learned from the various classes in the MS in Guidance and Counseling course have greatly influenced the researcher in the formulation of the theory. The case study was conducted in an informal counseling situation. A total of eight interviews were included in this study. Essentially, in Strength Therapy, when the person has possessed strength, he faces the world with his real potentialities and self. There are no defenses. He knows and understands his whole self and his being. In accepting what he is, what he can do, and what he has, he will find fulfillment and happiness. Strength Therapy is an eclectic approach to counseling. The counselor can use any of the approaches in bringing about the desired change.
