Abstract/Summary

Cebu coal mines is used as the subject of this particular study primarily because aside from Semirara, the combined potential for coal production of Cebu is of national significance. The objective of this study is to draw up a process flowsheet for a centralized coal washing plant in Cebu. The project is meant to provide the coal industry with a guide in the quality improvement of the coal deposits of the country. From the results of the tests conducted by the Energy Research Laboratory, it was found that the quality of the Cebu coal mines can be easily upgraded through the use of the coarse coal jig process. It was established that coal washing using the Batac Jig as the main cleaning equipment is an effective way of reducing the ash content by about 57 percent on the dry basis. It is therefore essential for the Centralized Coal Washing Plant (CCWP) to establish a system for pretreatment and blending the Run-Of-Mine (ROM) Cebu coals coming from the different mines to ensure a uniform feed quality. The viability of the jig process as applied to the CCWP is a proven technology and it is therefore recommended for Cebu or interested investors to undertake an economic feasibility study as regards the profitability of operating such as system for coal quality improvement.
