Abstract/Summary
v. 2. Nette is a puzzled and troubled college student from an exclusive private school in the Greater Manila area. It was found by the writer that the difficulties as expressed in the letters of or as verbalized by the counselee were: her parents, at times, are much too conservative her parents are over-protective that she is unable to fully and openly communicate with her parents as she feel their lack of trust in her she feels guilty about her feelings of rebellion towards her parents, about all the false excuses she has to present so that she can go out with her friends for school activities, etc. Both the writer and the counselee considered the acquiring of the adaptive behavior of her gradually communicating with her parents, as the possible key to the eventual solution of the other difficulties. Initially, data were gathered from: phone calls by the counselee, interviews with the counselee, interviews with both of her parents, the counselees personal data, the counselees diary, the counselees letters to the writer, psychological tests (Otis self-administering test of mental ability, California test of personality, Sacks sentence completion test and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) and college scholastic records. From these sources, important relevant information were gathered, analyzed and synthesized. Then, behavioral modification technique was applied, which was the SPAM treatment based on Blackhams Strategem 3 involving role shift and positive reinforcement. Having obtained sufficient data, the writer together with Nette, the counselee, outlined her specific action programs, which hopefully will lead to the achievement of her enabling sub-goals and ultimately of her major goal. These defined the new role that Nette would assume whenever she went home for the weekends. For a period of five weekends, Nette kept a record of the results of her SPAM Treatment.
