Abstract/Summary
Several approaches towards the synthesis of a novel sugar-derivatized tetrathiafulvalene (1) are carried out. However, initial attempts to attach three different monosaccharides onto the 1,3-dithiole-2-thione framework (2) as precursors for the TTFs were unsuccessful. Structural factors such as size and position of linkage seem to be the primary determining factor. [Insert diagrams here.]In addition to these, further experimentation on a previously synthesized sugar-functionalized 1,3-dithiole-2-thione show that coupling using triethylphosphite to form TTFs are incompatible.
