Abstract/Summary

1st work. This study aims to make a review of the existing guidance program of the Union High School of Philippine Christian College. The instruments used in this study included the following : 1) informal interviews with the principal and guidance counselor, 2) data from school records and files from the principal and the guidance office, 3) the different impressions and reactions of students and the school community, and 4) personal observations made. The study was confined to the high school department of the Philippine Christian College. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that the guidance services of the Union High School of Philippine Christian College did not adequately meet the needs of the students. There was a need for improvement and strengthening of some areas of the present guidance program. It was recommended that a stronger information service be put in place by having subscriptions of handbooks, pamphlets, and magazines giving information about different professions and occupations. A more adequate testing service which included intelligence tests for all years, aptitude tests for the 4th year, interest test for the 4th year, and adjustment and personality tests for all years, was also suggested. The study also pointed out a need for a trained guidance counselor to do full-time service for the guidance program. -- 3rd work. The counseling sessions with the subject of the study, Angie has revealed the three main difficulties that she encounters. These were : 1) the feeling of loneliness and shyness in approaching people which resulted to her staying most often in the room 2) the difficulty of getting along with her roommates who were older than her and 3) having a hard time studying her lessons because the dormitory was very noisy. These small problems, which more or less were inter-related with each other, were taken as one problem, and this was the problem of getting adjusted to a new kind of environment.
