Abstract/Summary
This paper is a feasibility study conducted to find out the possibility and viability of establishing a preschool at Sta. Mesa, Manila, in 1987 as a project of the Grace Gospel Church. The study involved the description, recording, analysis, and interpretation of the data gathered under the different aspects of a feasibility study, namely, community, technical, marketing, management, academic, financial, and socio-economic aspects, which served as a basis for deciding on the possibility and viability of establishing the proposed preschool. The questionnaire developed by the researcher consisted of two main parts. Part I determined the socio-economic status of the respondents based on the classifications by Espiritu, and Hunt (1977), with modifications on income brackets. Part II asked for information on the respondents' attitudes, perceptions, and expectations regarding the proposed preschool, the languages and the number of preschool-aged children in their homes, and their possible involvements in the pre and post operational activities related to its establishment. The questionnaire was prepared in both English and Chinese. The respondents for the questionnaire included the total population of approximately 100 families comprising the Grace Gospel Church at Sta. Mesa, Manila, who attended the Sunday services regularly as of 1986. Also included in the population were non-member parents of Sunday school kindergarteners who attend Bible classes and administrators of selected preschools in Sta. Mesa and nearby communities in Metro Manila who were respondents to unstructured interviews conducted by the researcher during his visits to these preschools.
Based on the findings of the study, it could be concluded that it will be both feasible and viable for Grace Gospel Church to establish a preschool in Sta. Mesa, Manila in 1987. From within the church, there are enough physical, financial, and human resources needed for the proposed school operations. Different factors in the community and its surrounding areas indicated that there is an increasing demand for preschool education. The prospect of the proposed school to get a substantial share of the preschool market is also high as reflected by the need for more preschools. The proposed school is also found to be financially viable and profitable, which will ensure its stability and possibility of future growth and development. Furthermore, the project will prove beneficial to the Grace Gospel Church in realizing its mission of evangelization.
