Abstract/Summary

This study aims to propose an organized student personnel services program for Mary Immaculate Academy, Iloilo, based on the situational analysis of the school community, human resources analysis, the perceived needs of the students, and upon consideration of the present situation of the student services program. The study made use of the descriptive survey method to gather baseline data through documentary analysis to ensure a factual description of the prevailing condition of the community and the present status of the school. The two instruments used in this study were the Student Needs Assessment Form and the PAASCU Student Services Survey Form, which was used to analyze the existing student personnel services of Mary Immaculate Academy. The respondents in the survey were selected elementary and the first year to fourth year students of Mary Immaculate Academy enrolled during the school year 1985-1986, selected parents, teachers and school administrators. The actual number of respondents were 215 high school students , 46 elementary students, 23 administrators and teachers and 15 parents. The partially satisfied reaction of the students in the needs assessment and the moderately extensive analyses of the parents, teachers and administrators showed that the student services were not emphasized fully in the existing student services. The study also showed that Mary Immaculate Academy cannot support a separate student services program for the high school and elementary students considering its limited resources. But an institutionalized student personnel services program for both high school and elementary students is feasible through the student personnel services fee collected from the students, the PTA membership fee and other donations from the school benefactors and sponsors.

In the light of the study's findings and conclusions, it was recommended that the proposed student personnel services program be presented to the administration, faculty and parents for support, approval and participation and that the student handbook be formulated to include the necessary items in the proposed personnel services program. It was also recommended that the school should provide a definite budget allocation in the student services, that yearly evaluation of activities should be conducted to determine further the relevance and functionality of the program, that the faculty be given seminars on guidance and counselling considering their role in the student services program and that other Dominican schools be informed of the implementation of the student services program in Mary Immaculate Academy so that they can do the same in their schools.
