Abstract/Summary

Juan de la Cruz Jr. is a tenth grade high school boy at La Salle Bacolod during the school year 1967-1968. He is only son of divorced and remarried Spanish parents. His problems can be traced back to poor family relations. Parents constantly fought for the love of the boy, but neither really truly loved him. At least this is how Juan felt. Hostility towards the father has been repressed and is beginning to manifest itself. His resentment towards authority is really an expression of his hostility towards his father. The meticulousness and religiosity of the mother were impressed upon Juan hence, he tends to be a perfectionist and gets irritated when things are not right according to his judgment. To avoid being disturbed much by his guilt feelings, he tends to project the defects, to others or to the wickedness of the world. Initially, data were gathered from a cumulative folder, interviews with the pupil and his teachers, tests (Bell Adjustment Inventory, Guilford-Zimmerman Temperament Survey, California Test of Mental Maturity, Mooney Problem Check List, California Test of Personality and Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory), questionnaires, and school records. The data gathered were used to have a clear picture of Juan’s personality. The counselor also used the eclectic method. Result has shown that Juan feels the need to be loved. The fact that he really never felt love made him mistrustful. He needs a philosophy of life to find meaning for his existence. Objectively, he needs a home where he can be given love and care. He has more of internal conflicts than external ones. As a result of his problems, he is losing control over his imagination and seems to be constantly struggling with his evil tendencies. His aggression, lack of affection, and feelings of inadequacy are the causes of his having strong sex problems.
