Abstract/Summary
This study determines whether there still exists a future market for a new television manufacturer. It also determines what degree of success such a proposed venture would meet. The study was primarily composed of three parts: the market study, engineering study and financial study. To a large extent, data on the market were taken from an industry study of four household appliances (radio, television, refrigerators, and room air-conditioners) by the defunct Program Implementation Agency in March, 1965. Where existing or updated data were not available, direct inquiries from producers, assemblers, and appliance dealers were made. Engineering data were secured by direct interview at a local assembly plant. The data thus compiled were used in projecting the possible direction of the television industry and determining the feasibility of the proposed project. Despite the keen competition in the television market, as was the case in any industry that finds eager public acceptance, it cannot be said that the market has already been saturated. The availability of highly competent local technology, the abundance of labor coupled with the relative simplicity of production and assembly process, and the fact that no large capital expenditures were required to initially launch the venture all point auspiciously in favor of success. Also, in making television come within the reach of more, this additional channel of communication and medium of entertainment could contribute to the social upliftment of the people.
