Abstract/Summary
The study sought to determine the profile and needs of the inmates whose ages ranges from 15 to 20 of the medium security prison of Camp Sampaguita, Muntinlupa, Metro Manila. Specifically, it sought to find answers to the following inquiries: 1. What is the profile of the youthful offenders confined at Camp Sampaguita, according to crimes committed? 2. What is the distribution of the subjects by crimes committed and each of the following characteristics: a) age b) highest educational attainment c) civil status d) birth order e) living arrangement before imprisonment f) work experience before imprisonment g) religion 3. What are their existing needs and problems along intrapersonal, interpersonal, emotional, and spiritual areas? The study was conducted among one-hundred-ten (110) inmates who belong to 15 to 20 years of age. A questionnaire which was deviced by the researcher was used in conducting the survey. All the data were analyzed and interpreted. Frequency and percentage distribution was done accordingly. It concluded that the inmates committed varied crimes such as robbery, homicide, theft, murder, hold-up and illegal possession of drugs, the most common of which is robbery. Inmates have varied characteristics that are found significant to the types of crimes they committed. The subjects included in this study have intrapersonal, interpersonal, emotional and spiritual needs that would require assistance from pastoral counselors and that call for the inclusion of a functional guidance and counseling program for prisoners.
