Abstract/Summary

This study discovers the predictors that significantly contribute to the level of job satisfaction among Indonesian middle managers. The sample of 100 middle managers who worked at Pertamina offices consisted of 50 home-based Pertamina managers and 50 in-house contractors' managers from five companies completed the Personal Survey Form (PSF) and the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire short form plus (MSQ-plus). The Funnel approach that combines the quantitative and qualitative method was employed as a narrowing strategy. Qualitative data were gathered through a structured interview guide (SIG), conversational interviews and the Rokeach Value Survey (RVS) was used to explore how managers' values related to their job satisfaction level. Life satisfaction was also explored. Analysis of variance and regression analysis--both simple and multiple linear--with the level of significance 0.05 were used for analysis. Nine predictors emerged as related to Indonesian middle managers' job satisfaction: 3 demographic variables (sex, religion and skills fit), 4 facet satisfaction varibles (mentally challenging works, supportive colleagues, equitable rewards and supportive working conditions) and 2 non-work predictors (country circumstances and family welfare)
