Abstract/Summary
Science is a core subject that is offered in both primary and secondary schools here in the Philippines. There are a lot of problems and challenges that face Science teachers these days. Secondary school teachers now have to adjust to a new curriculum as provided by the Department of Education (DepEd) even when they are not properly equipped with the proper approaches and materials needed. Teachers are left with trying to cope with the activities and lessons given age old and inefficient methodologies. In the course of data gathering, it was unveiled that there is still the huge problem of the absence of Instructional Design in the classrooms, and if there is, the Instructional Design is poorly implemented. Lack of tools such as Teachware (A software using Multimedia and Instructional Design to teach various classroom lessons) and other instructional tools are also experienced. Further, theres inadequate training for teachers to be able to use whatever technology tools are available. These issues have anchored the project paper. The project paper aims to assist in the development of Teachware that High School teachers may use in order to properly deliver their lessons in class. The project would provide Multimedia developers a readymade outline to follow in order for them to be able to create effective software that would assist teachers in presenting their lessons. This paper presents the Instructional Design Framework intended to cater to the High School Teachware design. The Instructional Design Principles of David Merrill is used in the study as a basis for the Framework. The project also takes into consideration the new curriculum of DepEd which used the Understanding by Design Framework by Wiggins & McTighe.
