Abstract/Summary
This study investigated the educators perspectives of spirituality in the educational workplace. Employing a qualitative-case study approach to research by Yin (1994) and Marshall and Rossman (2006) in analyzing case study evidence, six cases were investigated from four different types of tertiary schools participated by 12 selected educators and 6 students using purposive sampling method. Results of the study show that educators collective views of workplace spirituality are anchored on God and His principles in work. It is basically a God centered work life inherent in the school systems and procedures which affects work behavior, work output and or work performance. It centers on morally acceptable work standard where right attitude, work behavior and work values are pursued. Spirituality in educational workplace pursues holism at work highlighting the importance of healthy working relationships, values integration and application. The practice of spirituality in educational workplace is embedded in four specific interrelated dimensions: spiritual awareness, nature of work, values and purpose of work and attitude and behavior in work. Spirituality in educational workplace is also recognized to have influences on school operation, school policies and procedures, work attitude, work morals, work performance, teaching and learning process and decision making. The practice of spirituality in educational workplace is manifested through certain practices and activities which give educators or stakeholders a whole sense of spiritual experiences and nourishment at work such as: worship, prayer and meditation, mission, fellowship/meetings, discipleship/training and development, Biblical/values integration and campus ministry.
