Abstract/Summary
The study investigated the adjustment behaviors of full-time professors of De La Salle University along side their adaptability to the social, economic, and emotional challenges posed by retirement. A sequential exploratory mixed method approach was utilized to collect the data. Interviews were conducted through the use of semi-structured interview questions in order to gather the qualitative data regarding the adjustment and adaptability of full-time professors to the challenges of retirement. The qualitative data was analyzed through the use of Thematic analysis and themes were generated. An adapted survey was also utilized in order to gather the quantitative data regarding the challenges of retirement and professors' planning and resources for it. The results of the surveys were analyzed through Spearman's Rank Correlation, or Spearman's Rho. According to the results of the both the quantitative data, full-time professors of De La Salle University are mostly proactively preparing for retirement and are apprehensive about the possible financial and health challenges that could arise, as well as the idea of lacking purpose and social interaction. Many of the professors feel that early preparations may help them better adjust and adapt to the challenges post by retirement, but they would also prefer to continue to teach even in their retirement given that it is a profession that they love.
