Abstract/Summary

Personal communication through the Internet is very popular today. Methods of communicating include electronic mail, chat , voice, videophone and videoconferencing. Electronic mail, more popularly called as e-mail, does not only transmit text but may include attachments like graphic files, sound files, video files and all sorts of documents. Several people may enter a chat room and converse, real-time, by exchanging text. The Internet phone, in its early version, mimics the Plain Old Telephone System (POTS) but uses connectionless service. An upgrade of the Internet phone also transmits the live images of the talking parties (i.e. a videophone). Videoconferencing connects several videophones so that several people may hold a virtual meeting. A new idea in communicating incorporates drawing, much like a teacher using a blackboard or peers using paper to communicate ideas more effectively. This thesis presents a drawing environment software that would enable two users, using the Internet, to sketch or draw their ideas in real time. This remote illustration program takes care of establishing a connection between the parties through the Internet. Transmission and reception of data is done using TCP/IP.
