Abstract/Summary

This paper was a descriptive study about the subjective experiences of male sex workers. Researchers were able to acquire nine subjects who are either working at prostitute-operating bars along Timog or Quezon Avenue, or are free lancers through non-probability purposive sampling, contact persons, and chain referral methods. Also, rapport building was done through pakikipagkuwentuhan with both the contact persons and subjects. In depth interview was used as a method for gathering data and qualitative analysis was employed using phrases as the units of analysis. Based from the results of the study, the main reasons why the subjects entered the life because of family problems and economic reasons. Subjects also, had undergone processes in accepting themselves. Being sex workers, they experience negative societal reactions which they handle subjectively. Most of them chose to hide their true identity from their families and friends. Generally, the subjects' relationship with their clients is merely a sexual one. Thus, there were no feelings involved. Despite the struggle they are experiencing at present, they still look forward to a brighter future.
