Abstract/Summary

An EPROM (Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory) Simulator and Programmer provides convenient programming, and reprogramming of several popular types of EPROMs. The EPROM Simulator-Programmer System (ESPS) is designed to mimic the following UV EPROM chips: the 2716, 2732, 2758, 2764, 27128, 27256, and the 27512 as well as their sub-classes. The ESPS allow users to save time by eliminating the need to erase and reprogram EPROMs whenever the programmers discover errors in their programs. The ESPS use Static Random Access Memory (SRAM) in order to duplicate EPROM functions. Most EPROM erasers take about twenty (20) minutes to erase the original contents of the EPROMs before the chips could be reused, while SRAMs need only to be written on in order to change its contents. The ESPS was developed not only to minimize programming time of EPROMs. It has two main functions, as a simulator and as a programmer. Operating as a simulator it will duplicate the operations of most types of EPROMS on the market in order to determine programming errors. Electronic switching will be used to modify the pin configurations of the simulator input output plugs. When the user is confident that his program will run, he can use the ESPS to write it directly onto a blank EPROM. Portability through the use of a rechargeable power pack has also been added to further increase efficiency while working on a program. It will allow the user to transfer from one work area to another without the fear of losing data.
