Abstract/Summary

Public transport services are important, especially to those who commute everyday. The terminals inside Metro Manila are scattered in different cities. The South West Integrated Provincial Transport System (SWIPTS), which includes the city intermodal terminal (CIT), is located at the former Coastal Mall in Paranaque City alongside Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEx). The main goal of the terminal is to serve as an integral terminal that has all modes of public utility vehicles, which are going to the province of Cavite and the City of Metro Manila. Having a vehicular terminal would lessen the number of public vehicles that needs to stop at different points, especially along the road, to be able to get their passengers. If there is an available terminal, it would be easier for the passengers to choose and commute. Parking facilties for the public utility vehicles is not the only priority of a terminal, but also the facilities that would be available for the passengers. Therefore, this paper outlined a number of factors that could help improve and manage the available terminal.

This research is guided through the use of survey questionnaires, passenger counts and vehicle counts. This was conducted in order to produce the most appropriate design considerations for the major terminal. The results from the surveys, and basic statistical analysis showed that accessibility and transport routes are the desired priority of the passengers. This study recommends that the passengers should be prioritized in terms of having a more accessible terminal and a terminal that would be passenger friendly.
