Abstract/Summary

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of our fabricated temperature and light intensity gradient table. In order to test this, a blue green algae was chosen which is the Anabaena 40 Sn to be the sample specie.

This was done by subjecting equal densities of cultured Anabaena 40 Sn Specie in liquid medium to different temperature and light intensities supplied by the gradient table. Three temperatures were chosen and these are in the range of 40-45 centigrade, 33-37 centigrade, and 28-30 centigrade. On the other hand, 100 ft-c, 60 ft-c, 33 ft-c, 16 ft-c, and 11 ft-c are the light intensities where the specie will be exposed to. Other parameters which affect the growth rate were kept constant like the type of specie to culture, culture period, and nutrient composition. The chlorophyll A content of the specie was determined after five days to observe the growth rate. The sample at 35 centigrade produced the greatest amount of chlorophyll A. Also, at 60 ft-c the specie reaches its critical point where it produces the highest chlorophyll A content as compared to other light intensities. These results clearly proves the effectiveness of our gradient table to determine the most favorable temperature and light condition on the growth of Anabaena 40 Sn, or any other algae due to its design flexiblty.
