Abstract/Summary

KA-MA Pilipinas is a semiconductor company that subcontracts IC packaging and testing in the Philippines. It was established in 1976. The company has three plants. Plant 1 and 2 are located beside each other in South Superhighway, Muntinlupa, Plant 3 is located in Santa Rosa, Laguna. KA-MA Pilipinas is a joint venture of a Korean and American Company. The Company's management requested the proponents to study the airport to airport system of the company. The airport to airport system includes many departments. These departments are the Shipping Department, Stores Receiving Department, Pre-Assembly Department and the Production Department. Due to time constraint, the proponents decided to focus its study on the CIC department of KA-MA Pilipinas, Inc. After weeks of observation, data collections and interviews, the group came up with concerns regarding the delay of the department in meeting its goal time. The group found out that when the CIC did not meet its goal time. The group found out that CIC did not meet its goal time, then the whole process of the dice would not be delivered on time to the customers and costs would incur. The delay of the CIC department contributes 57.945% of the total delay of the company. This is due to the CIC department is not meeting its goal time by 147.2% of the time. The process that the group follows in determining the problem is by means of using the SWOT SURG analysis and the causes and effects are also pinpointed by means of using the Cause and Effect Diagram. After further analysis the true causes that contributes to the delay of the department are the following: Piled up work during weekends, too much time in encoding and pin selection and the AS401 downtime. These three major causes contributes 40%, 29%, and 20% of the delay of the CIC department. Since the AS401 system is not handled by the CIC department, then the proponents did not include this in the proposal of the solution. This is mainly due to the AS401 is out of the scope of the study.

Alternative Solutions were generated and deliberated by the company and the best solution for the two major causes were proposed. The proposed system was simulated to compare the effectiveness of the proposed solution. Based from the simulation, it turns out that the most effective solution is having work on Sundays. The implementation of the proposed system has incurred costs and benefits for the company. The total costs for the proposed system for the whole year is P191,210.30 for the additional three workers and the other expense such as electricity. This would also be the yearly costs of the company plus the yearly inflation rate. The benefits that the company would save with the implementation of the proposed solution is P 790,755.87. Implementation plan includes first deliberation of management to the project proposal then notifying the CIC department of the proposal plan. The scheduling of the workers that would work overtime during Sundays is already done. Notifying the other departments connected with the CIC department of the changes to be done. It was concluded that the implementation of the proposed plan be executed to be able to minimize delay by more than fifty percent. Subject
