Abstract/Summary

The production of Pylon Nets in the Philippines has come a long way since it started in the 1950's. Philippine Synthetic Products Manufacturing Company Inc. has started its production of Pylon Nets in 1975 and has sought to make its objective to serve quality products at reasonable prices. The company has come a long way since then and now enjoys a reputation of being one of the leaders in the manufacture of Pylon nets. PSP consistently enjoys a position as number 2 in the industry. The focus of this study will be on the production of Pylon Nets only. There are 2 types of fishing nets. Knotted nets and knotless nets, which differ primarily on the structure of the net. As for the market share, it is maintained through the sales in the different client industries such as fishing, construction, shipping and agriculture. For PSP, there is a vast demand for Pylon nets: however, PSP can not accommodate all these demands and this results into a backlog of orders for the company. In this study, the group took the average of the unmet demand of the company which is equal to 12.35% of the total demand of PSP which is translated to an average loss sales of P 15,756.779.47 per year and lost potential profit amounting to an average of P 1.6333.525.53 per annum. With such a high percentage of unmet demand, the company wishes to look for solutions in answering this problems. After arriving at the problem, several causes where determined such as delimited capacity of the machines and machine downtime. The effect of these causes would contribute to the inability of the company to meet customer demands which is the primary problem of this study. For the formulation of solutions, preventive maintenance and the addition of the needed number of machines were used. The main concern of the company and the group is to propose the most cost effective and beneficial solution that will allow the company to meet the projected demand of the industry for the next five years.
