Abstract/Summary

This research paper aims to provide a background study on the current situation of Switzerland by providing an analysis and an in-depth research concerning the issues that are likely to arise upon the integration of Switzerland in the European Union (EU) due to the formers neutral status. The causes and reasons that promote or hinder a possible Swiss membership in the EU were tackled. Furthermore, the implications of Switzerland’s neutral status in EU membership will be analyzed. These topics were discussed with reference to the current referendums and surveys that asked for the opinion of the public regarding this delicate matter. The main purpose of this research is to make the readers fully aware of the Swiss dilemma and how this current issue would affect the dynamic political environment in the European Union. Through this research, others will also be encouraged to do studies on other contemporary issues that will likely affect the structure of the EU in the future.
