Abstract/Summary

Granular soils are kinds of soils that generally contain large particles sizes that causes water to seep. Regions having such soil is commonly in marshlands, near lakes and rivers. With this, it decreases the strength properties of the soil such as shear strength and compassive strength. Hence, there is a need for geotechnical improvements of such soil. The use of nano-silica, mixed with hydrated lime to soils have shown various improvements in soil properties such as its compressive and shear strength all while using minimal amount. The soil is mixed with varying porportions of nano-silics mixture (0%, 0.6%, 0.8%, 1%, 3%, 5%) and all have a constant amount of hydrated lime by 5% to the ones incorporated with silicon dioxide particles. Geotechnical properties were tested and results show an increase of maximum dry unit weight by 10% through proctor test. Unconfined compression test of cured soil samples also shows significant change which reached 7.07kPa in 28-day curing for 0.8% NS mixture while 0% NS resulted to 0 kPa due to its collapsing while carrying its self weight when removed from the mold.
