Abstract/Summary
This study measures the stock market awareness and stock market participation of the financial decision makers of selected small and medium enterprises in Metro Manila. It also investigates how stock market awareness affects stock market participation. The purpose of this study is to provide a new outlook on stock market awareness and stock market participation by providing a new setting and by contributing more data to the field of study. The study measured stock market awareness and stock market participation through the use of a self-assessment survey that rated ones awareness and participation using a five-point Likert scale. Mean interpretation, multiple regression analysis, and one-way analysis of variance were used in analyzing the results of the survey. The results indicate that the overall stock market awareness of the financial decision makers of selected small and medium enterprises in Metro Manila is moderate, and that their overall level of stock market participation is low. The banking and financial sector had the highest awareness and participation levels while the media sector had the lowest. The results also indicate that stock market awareness and demographics (sector of activity, years of operating, capitalization) has a moderate linear relationship with stock market participation.
